Putting My Money Where My Mouth Is
Today was a big day for this Leisure Depot employee. I bought my XL Big Green Egg today, and let me tell y'all, it is something special. I've owned a normal charcoal grill for years, and since working at Leisure Depot, I have cooked on the Burn Unit, loving it and waiting till I could afford this purchase.
It's a large investment for sure, but the family budget finally lined up and I purchased the Leisure Depot's Father's Day Package. The package consists of the Egg, Nest, Conveggtor (aka Plate Setter), Ash Tool, Grill Gripper, Fire Starters, and Charcoal.
Armed with my knowledge of having built and cooked on the Egg, I went straight to the task. I built the nest first, then put the assembly bands together. This process took about and hour, and today in 100+ degree heat, it was something. Next, I put the shell in the nest, then lined up the dome and put on the assembly bands. I made sure to write down my personal egg warranty registration number imprinted in every Egg. Then I went to biggreenegg.com and registered my egg to ensure my lifetime warranty. Total build time took me about 2 hours, but given today's high temps, that is longer than normal.
When I finished, I was dripping in sweat, but beaming with glee. I immediately took a photo and shared on Facebook and Instagram. 50 Likes and 10 comments later, I loaded in the charcoal and lit it up. The first time out cooking, or to season the Egg, I got the temperature set to 350, and properly cooked a pork tenderloin from one of our local butchers. An hour and 3 neighbor boastings later, I took the tenderloin off and shut the Egg down.
I cut into the tenderloin and gave my wife a bite. Immediately, there was that face of "you could never have done that on the old grill. Worth every penny. Well done Sweets!" Isn't that what the Big Green Egg and summer grilling season is made for? Happy Father's Day to me!
